Sankara Eye Hospital, Ludhiana, helps Sona Devi Ji
40 year old Sona Devi was facing many problems in completing her daily chores because she was unable to see things clearly. She always needed the assistance of her daughters to complete her work. She thought it might be due to age but she was wrong , the problem was something else.
With poor vision caused by Cataract in her Left eye, she had been suffering from reduced vision for the last year and a half. “I couldn’t even teach the children”, Sona devi confessed. Her husband Mr Inder Dev who works in a factory, took her to the Civil Hospital to get her treated. It was there that they found out that it was cataract that was causing blurred vision. Inder draws a monthly salary of Rs. 5000/- . Apart from their basic requirements Inder’s salary was spent in tuition fee for his three children. Catarct surgery was not affordable for him.
Since Sona was unable to do even household work, the burden fell on their oldest daughter. Her studies suffered in turn. In turn all of this turned out to be a vicious cycle bogging down the entire family.
Fortunately she went to Nishkam Charitable Hospital for check up and there she came to know that Sankara Eye Hospital is organising a free camp in the District Hospital at Ludhiana. Sona Devi and her husband came to the camp with a ray of hope. She was diagnosed with cataract by the Doctor in the camp. Her husband readily consented to surgery. Her elder daughter was ready to take 2 days leave from school to take care of her siblings. Sona Devi got operated for her cataract successfully and is now delighted and thankful to Almighty for getting her vision back. “My family will be back on track now- we are all happy and thankful.”
